Grace Enger’s The Alchemist, her second EP, was released in December 2024, offering a poignant 7-track journey through love and life, complete with cathartic bridges and storytelling lyricism. Now, the project has gotten an emotional upgrade with two additional tracks as part of The Alchemist (Gold Edition) released on February 28, 2025.
“Love Will Find Me” begins with an intense drum intro, before Enger recounts her complicated dating history, thinking about the ones who broke her heart and relationships that were more about convenience. In the chorus, she sings, “If there’s nowhere left to go / Then I’ll wait for love to find me / I’m not scared of being alone, no / But I’d like someone beside me.” The bittersweet lyrics encapsulate feelings of loneliness after heartbreak and hopefulness when you meet someone new.
On “When I Think Of You,” a dramatic piano base sets the tone as Enger thinks about a love that she hasn’t quite let go of, still missing them and wondering what they have been up to. As she admits in the chorus, “And I don’t wanna waste my time / On somebody new / ‘Cause it still feels like you’re mine / When I think of you.” Here, her strength is in the ability to capture the emotional complexity of holding on to someone, even when the relationship has long since ended.
The Alchemist is a fitting title for this project, as Grace Enger proves that with just a pen and piano, she can transform raw emotion into musical gold. One of the brightest voices in the sea of emerging talent, she deserves all the success that comes her way.
